Leave No Trace, Principles to MInimize Impact
Leave No Trace (LNT) is an educational program developed in 1991 by the US Forest Service, National Outdoor Leadership School and the Bureau of Land Management. LNT promotes skills and ethics to support sustainable use of our wildlands and natural areas. At the heart of the program are seven principles:
- Plan ahead and Prepare
- Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces
- Dispose of Waste Properly
- Leave What you Find
- Minimize Campfire Impacts
- Respect Wildlife
- Be Considerate of Others
Educating yourself on Leave No Trace principles, through Leave No Trace, Center for Outdoor Ethics or through our LNT Trainers's Course. This is an important step towards our ability to "Preserving the Wild in Wilderness for future generations." If you are interested in setting up a Leave No Trace Workshop or training for your organization or company, please contact .
We believe if every wilderness visitor practiced LNT, much of our stewardship work would not be necessary. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Please help us by participating in LNT Trainers training and spread the word.
