Sister Wilderness Volunteer Organizations in Colorado

Grand County Wilderness Group (GCWG): Assist the Sulphur Ranger District of the U.S. Forest Service in managing and protecting wilderness and backcountry areas in Grand County, including the Indian Peaks Wilderness accessed from the Western Slope. Volunteers host cabins at the Junco Lake Trailhead and Monarch Lake Trailheads on weekends and holidays in the summer months.

 

Poudre Wilderness Volunteers (PWV): Assist the Canyon Lakes Ranger District of the U.S. Forest Service in managing and protecting wilderness and backcountry areas in Northern Colorado. To achieve this mission, Poudre Wilderness Volunteers recruits, trains, equips and fields citizen volunteers to serve as wilderness rangers and hosts for the purpose of educating the public, and provides other appropriate support to these wild areas.

 

Indian Peaks Wilderness Alliance (IPWA): Indian Peaks Wilderness Alliance (IPWA): Partners with the U.S. Forest Service Boulder Ranger District in a collaborative stewardship to preserve and protect the Indian Peaks and James Peak Wilderness Areas. The IPWA achieves its mission by running programs aligned within its four strategic goals of restoration, education, advocacy, and patrolling.

 

Eagle Summit Wilderness Alliance (ESWA): Helps the Dillon and Holy Cross Ranger Districts of the White River National Forest maintain portions of the Eagles Nest, Ptarmigan Peak, and Holy Cross Wilderness areas.

 

Upper Arkansas Wilderness Volunteers (GARNA-UAWV):  GARNA, through community collaboration, inspires a conservation ethic by providing educational opportunities and experiences so that those who live, work and play in the Upper Arkansas Valley are motivated to take care of the natural resources and leave a legacy of responsible use of the natural environment.
